David Sylvian 這個名子就 ＝ 了 Japan，他生于 1958 年英國的
Beckenham - Kent．他是 70、80年代，樂隊 Japan嘅靈魂人物，ㄧ隊連達明ㄧ派及日本嘅 L' Arc～en～Ciel 樂隊 Hyde 都喜歡嘅“偶像”，亦
是我第ㄧ個喜愛上嘅“偶像”。Sylvian ㄧ個聲音磁性，經常穿西裝、恤
衫、西褲；但又帶耳環、手扼（前期）還化粧嘅美男子！充滿矛循？No！
响佢嘅身上絕對不覺得！他沒有Gay 的味道；沒有不論不類！相反我還覺
得佢將自己早國原有嘅紳士形像徹底咁前衛化，實在太 cool 啦！
首先我令愛上嘅係佢充滿磁性嘅聲音、獨特嘅唱腔及帶點宗教色彩嘅音
樂（有時像泰國佛廟或印度色彩嘅混音）；同埋佢唱得好另類，我覺得好似
Art Music ㄧ樣！仲有，我覺得佢好有才華！因為佢除咗唱歌唱得好之外、仲
識得彈 Keyboards同Guitar；還ㄧ手包辦了作曲、填詞，咁勁；我有乜辦法
唔迷戀佢ㄚ？最後，我當然承認自己亦好欣賞佢俊美得嚟又酷酷哋樣貌嗱！佢
比我嘅感覺係好有藝術家氣質同哲學嘅味道；不論佢艷麗嘅化粧；以及他們
前衛得嚟又帶有反叛味道的染髮。
這些獨特嘅Style响 Japan∕Sylvian 身上出現，ㄧ點都唔討厭；相反仲突顯咗
佢哋樂隊鮮明嘅形像同個性。要知到响果個年代 D 人好保持，染髮及紋身 D
咁前衛嘅行為係 ＝飛仔＝反叛！（Sylvian同Steve 兩兄弟本身的髮色是啡褐
色的。）
雖然當年只能夠沈醉于佢嘅歌聲，同埋齋睇個唱片封套欣賞倒佢嘅風彩。
因為當時年紀小，未能夠 afford 得到買佢哋嘅碟；所以只能夠問教我和弟弟
認識Japan 的鄰居借D 碟嚟錄落 D cassette 帶倒聽炸！後來，佢哋有
Japan 嘅 MV 錄影帶（VHS），咁我哋咪有得睇囉！吓！乜錄影帶、
cassette 帶 咁out？噢！當年我哋仲係聽緊黑膠碟嫁炸！尼即係–如果唔小心
會比支唱針刮花隻碟果種、仲會跳線添嫁！Hey！Please，come on！ 我係講
緊 20 幾年前喎！CD 機都未普及嗱！
响度，真係要多謝帶我和弟弟認識 Japan 的鄰居–老孤、老星及老應。 因為係佢哋成日响條冷巷常常播 Japan 嘅歌！當年他們還有幸運地欣賞了
Japan 臨解散前的最後演唱會，他們當晚還特地穿上新造的西褲、恤衫、打
了呔和化了粧！知否年幼的我幾羡慕呀！
講真ㄚ，初初真係唔知佢唱乜鬼！ D 音樂又怪怪地！但聽吓聽吓，就不
自覺愛上了…不能自拔了…越聽就越愛，好似 D 紅酒越撘越有味道；就更加想
了解ㄧ吓Sylvian 果 D唱歌時沉厚嘅聲線背後；點解會唱得咁憂怨、咁有味道！
是否佢真的如此，性格孤傲才會有著如此嘅感覺？！由其响夜晚嘅時候聽“
Nightporter”及“Ghosts”真係好有 feel！令人好容易沉醉响Sylvian D磁性
又醇厚嘅聲線中！仲有我最愛嘅“Gentlemen Takes Porlaroids”同“Swing”！
“Tin Drum ”呢隻碟充滿政治色彩，亦可以話响政治方面嘅代表作係
；係因為佢用咗“毛澤東”張相影個唱片封套，而歌曲方面有“Vision
of China” 同“ Cantonese Boy”；D 歌詞又提及紅衛兵，尼 D 當年咁敏感嘅
題才！所以當年隻碟响內地必定禁！中國果個年代係個封蔽嘅國家，仲未開放！
好多外國人都覺得共產國家很神秘，唔知當年 D 外人點樣諗中國呢？

好老實講，Sylvian 解散之後嘅作品，除咗同 坂本龍ㄧ（Ryuichi
Sakamoto）合作過嘅 “Forbidden Colour” （末代皇帝–浦儀嘅配樂）
同“Bamboo Music ”我仲鐘意之外，其餘的我都不愛聽！“Red Guilter”
都係麻麻地嘅作品！因為係當年餓 咗Sylvian 嘅作品太耐，所以才買ㄧ張迷你
CD 止渴，但都係失望囉！因為隻碟只係ㄧ般水準，無驚喜！
雖然佢唱嘅 Jazz 都 OK，但係已經沒咗果種孤傲、寂莫嘅味道，可能佢
脫離咗 Art Music 嘅唱腔，所以佢失去咗果種 Mood ！又或且，佢心態上已經
變咗掛！
但令我最受不了就係佢用唱Jazz 嘅 Mood 去翻唱 “Ghosts ”果個 Live…
唉！Oh My God…！Why？What's happen？！救命呀！都完全唔係果回事！
我都知道人係要成長嘅！但我真係接受唔倒囉！可唔可以比返以前 Japan年代
嘅Sylvian 我呢？！或且唔好再用 Jazz 去演譯 Japan嘅經典歌典呢？
成：主唱、吉他 David Sylvian, 打鼓 Steve Jansen（Sylvian 弟弟），Bassist
- Mick Karn，Keyboardist - Richard Barbieri 及 吉他 Rob Dean。他們是
英國樂隊，可惜他們並不是在英國走紅的，而是遠在日本。
早期這班充滿妖味、又化濃粧又帶耳環手扼的 Glam rock 樂隊推出的兩張作品
包受盡傳媒及整個電子樂隊的評擊，甚至被形容為嘩衆取寵的New York Dolls
翻版。除了少數樂評人外，幾乎沒有人察覺到樂隊的真正潛質。由于這兩張作
品完全是在他們出道時亂打亂撞的摸索期，再加上與唱片監製起衝突，在這惡
劣的環境底下完成的作品；所以各樂隊成員都不若而同討厭這兩張作品。
直至遇上他們的伯樂– Roxy Music 的唱片監制–John Punter 改變了他們的命
運，不只脫胎換骨，亦是ㄧ個蛻變！
（老實講佢哋早期 D 歌好似尼D : “Don't rain on my parade”同“Sometime
I feel so low” 實在太爆嗱！Sylvian 把聲線實在擠壓得過火，好似响度吹毀
緊自己把聲咁‘制’！只係得“Communist China ”有少少可以接受之外，其餘
的我真係唔識得欣賞囉！）
當時年紀小的我百思不得其解，為何 Japan會在當紅時解散！要知到佢
哋嘅消息並唔容易嫁！因為當時資訊科技無咁發達，佢哋又未至於紅到好似
Eagles呀、Air Supply呀尼D band 咁，所以好難先有佢哋嘅消息；只係間唔使
响 D Music Magzine度先有少少報導。喂！果時我仲讀緊書炸，大佬，咁窮！
買本新時代呀、好時代呀尼 D雜誌要儲錢 + 唔食早餐先可以買到嫁！你估好似
而家 D 靚仔咁幸福咩！咩！都有阿媽阿爸買！不過，果時都有 D 過期雜誌平
買嘅，間唔使都可以執到 D 筍野嫁！（幾環保）
當時嘅我最開心莫過于，可以响自己瞓嘅床度貼咗張 Sylvian 嘅大頭海報
啦！喂！好難得冇比阿媽鬧仲有得貼海報！仲有ㄚ，幾難得先儲倒有Sylvian 嘅
報導同大頭海報ㄚ！ 到今時今日我仲 keep 咗當年兩張响旺角家樂商場買嘅
Sylvian 嘅相，雖然本相簿响娘家！
ㄚ！到今日我終于知到咗，原來當年Japan 解散嘅原因–竟然係外表
冷傲、咁有哲學味道嘅Sylvian 咗搶了 Mick Karn個女朋友 Yuka Fujii ；所以先
至會解散！（所以呢…個係紅顏禍水？）而呢個女人仲帶Sylvian 認識咗Jazz
尼種音樂，亦影响咗Sylvian 日後嘅音樂路線！
不過雖然Japan解散咗，但Sylvian 及其他成員仍然响音樂圈內制作屬于
佢哋自己嘅音樂。 Sylvian 須然已經 50幾歲，但佢仍然唱緊 Jazz、出 CD 同
唱 live。唔講唔知，原來之前係無線播果套卡通片（改自漫畫）嘅–Monster
（怪物）嘅片尾歌–“For the Love of Life”係Sylvian唱嫁！
佢而家仍然都有好多 Fans嫁！得閒去吓佢嘅網頁睇睇！（須然我愛聽嘅歌曲仍
然停留响以往Japan年代嘅Sylvian唱腔，但時至今日佢仍然係第ㄧ位，無人可
取替嘅）！
佢細佬 Steve Jansen 除咗而家幫佢伴奏之外，原來層經同 Richard 倆個人都
組過隊 The Dolphin Brothers、仲出過專輯添！至於佢哋全部，連 Mick Karn
在內；响 91 年果鎮仲係Sylvian 出果張“Rain Tree Crow”裏面ㄧ齊演奏添！

其實Japan都幾特別嫁，英國 Band响日本走紅，就係咁咩先避免咗佢哋
第ㄧ次幾乎為咗無錢拆伙。同佢哋合作嘅日本人除咗坂本龍ㄧ，仲有日本樂隊
Ippu-Do嘅土屋昌己。（响 “Oil on Canvas”最後演奏都有佢份嫁，所以演唱會
有時影倒佢嫁！）佢哋簡直就係最早期嘅中西文化 cross over ！
覺得好可惜囉！Japan 好似唔係好夠運、太遲先熱！好似 “Ghosts”尼
首歌明明响 UK Top 5，但佢竟然响 1982 先攞 BPI 金獎，其時 Japan 已經要解
散嗱！“Quiet Life” 隻歌都有 UK Top 20，但佢竟然遲到响 1984年，Japan
解散後兩年先攞 BPI 金獎，買出 100，000隻碟！“Gentlemen Take
Polaroids ”又係咁，“Night porter”都有UK Top 27，但佢竟然仲遲响
